VERMONT
Hi, I'm Stacey Stanhope and I cannot remember a time when animals and art were not a part of my life. After receiving an MFA from Wichita State University in 1995, I moved back to GA and started Clay Fetish Pottery with my best friend Chris Baumann. In 1999, I renovated an 1880's farm house that was going to be torn down. After a visit to my grandparents in Vermont, it occured to me that metro Atlanta was not where I wanted to spend the rest of my life. For several years I would pack up pottery and one of my dogs and spend part of the summer in Vermont sightseeing and photographing old architecture, farms and farm animals, then would put those images onto the pottery I had brought with me. My work changed dramatically. I recently made the move to Vermont full time.

My work is all hand thrown and Salt fired. The decoration process is done using wax resist and painting in the negative areas. After the wax dries, I paint a black slip over the whole piece; this is what gives is a wood cut look. The work is then high fired in a reduction kiln with just enough salt added to create a slight sheen.
