DAVIS, ISRAEL

The objects that I make are based upon a series of memories and childhood dreams. At their basic core they represent the freedom and possibilities of youth. Through process and contemplation, these recollections have become a physical vision of past, present, and future.

The images are screen-prints of drawings derived from photographs of family, friends, and myself. The photographs are drawn over and manipulated in Photoshop. these drawings are treated to reference sketches and writing that might be found in an artist's journal or sketchbook.

Wood firing imparts an atmospheric quality to the work that just can't be duplicated in any other way. I consider the way I load each piece into the kiln. Seeking what I consider a "soft" firing. I don't want to obliterate the drawings. Rather, I seek the unison of ash, atmosphere, and imagery.
