BROWN, RENEE
BROWN, RENEE
MONTANA
I grew up in Conyers, Georgia playing in the creek bed beneath my parent’s house. Clay has always been under my nails. In 2006, I received my MFA in Ceramics at UNT and have since completed several residencies in Montana. I am currently a studio artist in Missoula MT.

“It is said that if one can remain still within her truth a bird might land on her; viewing her as a benign aspect of nature.” - traditional Buddhist proverb

My work forms a bridge between intangible concepts of joy, generosity and lusciousness, and tangible objects of daily use. Notions of innocence expressed through jovial colors, flowers, and birds reveal aspects of humanity I endeavor to cultivate within my own life.
I am looking for a certain visual sound to emerge from my work; bass tones of form, soprano shrills of decoration, rounded out by the tenors of hue. These compositions are little pieces of my self that I send out into the world to bring brightness to the realm of useful things.
