BRISSON, LUCIE
BRISSON, LUCIE
FRANCE
My pots are a three dimensional canvas for story-telling inspired by a love of line and graphics, coupled with happy memories of journeys and time spent journaling. They tell of the curves in the landscape, the waves of the crops in a field, the passing of seasons... and the emotions that accompanies it all.

Sturdy in nature, so as to remind whom uses them of their presence through weight, my pots also display subtle decorative and textural elements. I also enjoy creating surprises for the user in patterning parts that are often dismissed, such as the inside of the foot ring.

I aim at creating pots which show a sort of delicate, playful, intimate narrative not unlike what a haiku is to poetry.

BIOGRAPHY
Following a graphic design background, French-born Lucie Brisson has been working in clay since 2004. She started off by creating sculptural porcelain installations while a student at Cork College of Art and Design (Ireland).

Nevertheless, she knew upon graduating that she wanted to be a potter and started a journey of learning and working alongside potters in Japan, England, and more recently in Gresham, Wisconsin, where she apprenticed with wood-firer Simon Levin in 2012.

Upon returning home in 2013, she has set up her studio in a small village in South-West-France, where she makes majolica pots on a kick-wheel and dreams about her future wood kiln.

She wrote "The Apprenticeship Route", an article published in the May 2013's issue of Ceramics Monthly.
